EB1-EA membership question

Dear pals,
Here is a quick question. What kind of memberships are accepted in EB-1 EA? Do you guys think Sigma Xi is a good one?
And, how many memberships you have to have to qualify EA? I am an associate member of Sigma Xi and also several other societies which any in-field person can get in as long as they pay the fee. Do you think these satisfy the membership requirement in EA?

Thanks,

John

Probably not. I seem to remember somebody here gettng an RFE for that.

Associate membership in Sigma-Xi is a no-go. There's an AAO decision on this matter as far as I remember. Basically, they won't accept anything you can buy your way into.

So do you guys think regular membership of Sigma Xi is ok? And, do they have a list for the memberships? As far as I know, all societies in biological area are those kinds of pay-become-member style except Sigma Xi.

I don't think it is. If you want to claim it invest some time and go through administrative decision on OR appeals for the past 2-3 years. I'm 100% sure there's a decision that specifically discusses Sigma Xi.
In general the standard is simple - the society statute should require "outstanding achievements" from its members.

Regular membership of Sigma Xi is not enough. All memberships which inlcude any kind of payment to be part of the society are not good enough. You might take a look at:

http://uscis.gov/graphics/lawsregs/admindec3/b2/

There are enough examples and also in the OR cases

not any more

Full member of Sigma Xi used to be working for sure (two of my friends), but seems not any more. not mention associate membership
Some one told me on this board that once the same "tricky" part has been shown several times before a VO, it lose the original persuading power. I think he/she is exactly right! :(

However, it doesn't hurt if you list them, I guess. Just don't rely on that.
