EAD through marriage

I have a valid H1-B visa until 2007. I recently married a US Citizen and we applied for my adjustment of status. We also applied for my employment authorization and I recently received my EAD card. My question is it possible for me to resign from the company that sponsored my H1-B and just be an independent contractor or self-employed?

Yes, it is. Once you have your EAD based on marriage, you are free to say goodbye to your current employer.
