EAD - SOS to the Gurus

My current EAD is getting expired on 08/28/02. I have already applied for the extension (RD 06/05) and as usual it's taking forever.

My question is, as per current convention, I can't even go to the local INS office for interim EAD, since it won’t be 90 days. So, what should I do when my current EAD gets expired and I don’t get the new one? I can’t go to local INS before 09/05. Can I? Will it make me out of status?

No, You won't be out of status

EAD does not give you any status. EAD only allows you to work.
Filing 485 gave the "updating status". You will remain in status until your case has been adjudicated (approval or denied).

You have to wait for the 90 days to get the interim card. You will have to stop working until you get the new card. The company you are working has to remove you from payroll until you got the new EAD.
