Hi,

Is it true that at Vermont you can get your EAD instantly, at the time of filing as a walk-in (in California one has to wait 90 days before you can go to the INS Office). So one could get the EAD the same day as they put in the application for I-485.

Desperately need to know this so I thank you, in advance, for your reply.

I think, you can walk into the Local INS if you have not applied for EAD at VSC and submit a fresh application. Depending on which Local office you go you might get it in a day. I think Boston INS you get in a day.

No You cannot get an EAD within a day !

I also had the same feeling that you could get the EAD the day you apply. But thats not true, I went to the INS,Philadelphia yesterday to apply for my EAD. They took the form and said that it will take 30-90 days to approve.

You can if you are in Boston.

Boston accepts walk-in and you can get your EAD on that same day.

El, so can one file the I-485 and get EAD on the same day in Boston?

Or does one need to mail in the I-485 application and after getting the receipt for the I-485 go for an EAD.

Also can one go for an EAD before the I-485 receipt comes back from the INS?

Thanks so much

HI El Liu

Is Bostan office requires any local address or anybody can go in there. I am in a situation, my EAD expires in two months and Hartford Local INS says it will take more than 90 days. I am trying to get it from Bostan is it possible? If you have any info please post.

Didn\'t you have to fill up the home address in the EAD form?

I forgot how\'s the form looked like but I thought you have to fill up your home address in the application form, right? Well, in my wife\'s case, the officer didn\'t look into her application form. All the officer did was to make sure that she has her I485 receipt. I don\'t know if other officers might go through the same thing.

She used the I485 receipt

She didn\'t send her EAD application form along with the I485 package. She only used the I485 receipt to apply the EAD.

EAD Approval ...

According to my attorney (and bear in mind I\'ve caught several errors from dealing with this attorney), you can do a walk-in application in Boston for EAD. This issue came up when completing the forms for I-485; I asked if we were applying for EAD also and I was told \'No\'. The reason given was that applying for both together causes a slight delay (extra month or two) in getting receipts and EAD approval etc. Therefore, their recommendation is to apply for I-485. Once we receive the I-485 receipt, we will complete I-765 forms(EAD Application) and I can then (in theory, according to them) walk in to the Boston office (my local office) and get it sorted out there that day. I\'m not sure if I actually get the EAD card that day or if it\'s a temporary piece of paper. Once I go through this process, I\'ll update everyone.

EAD Approval Update ...

Regarding the EAD process in Boston,
I went to the INS Boston office in the JFK building yesterday - due to several other appointments, it was 10:30 a.m. before I got there. Waited in a short line for about 15 minutes - got to the front desk, explained why I was there and got a number.
Waited about 50 minutes for my number to be called. Presented the copy of my I-485 receipt, my application for EAD (I-765), $100 money order (payable to US Immigration and Naturalization Service) and my passport (containing my H1-B visa and I-94 card). They reviewed and stamped everything and then sent me to the cashier to present the money order.

Cashier gave me a receipt and told me to go to the EAD processing office at the other side of the room. At this point it was about 12.10 p.m. A security guard told me that the lady doing the cards was going to lunch (she was finishing up the last of the previous batch of applicants, then going to lunch and would be back at 1.00 p.m.) He placed my application in a file. I went for much-needed coffee. Came back just before 1.00.

The lady was back exactly at 1.00 - she told all waiting for EAD processing to remove jackets and coats and earrings (if applicable). If she called your name, and you were not ready she would call the next person and you would have to wait a little longer. I waited about 20 minutes - went in to the office, she took a photo, my signature and right index fingerprint. Waited another 30 minutes and then got the card.

Everyone was efficient and pleasant to all as long as people were polite and listened to instructions. They had very little patience with people who didn\'t listen, mainly because there were so many people there for processing and so few people actually working (out of 14 booths only 4 were staffed and easily over 100 people waiting for processing).

Hope this helped.

Does the Boston office accepts the applications only for the applicants residing in MA or in other words I live in CT, can I go
to Boston with my paperwork and get the EAD card the same day.
Thanks

Not sure ...

Check with your attorney - however, CT applications go through Vermont Service Center so I don\'t see why there would be a problem going to the Boston office with your documents and getting the card there. But again, I\'m not sure - about all I can say is that no one asked me where I lived ....
