Why are you asking them? I would approach them as you have equivalent of Green Card. Granted this is for one year... but if your spouse continues J1, your EAD will be renewed.

I can approach, but what if they deny..... Also I called many programs to find out and it seems that secretaries have no idea what EAD is. They don't know that it is issued under different categories and usually think that you are future GC holder. They don't know if it is OK in j2 status. I am scared to be kicked out even if i match to a program. And I am not taking j1 no matter what. People, any way to find out?!!!

Just let the program know that you don not need any visa and you have EAD which is renewable on yearly basis (the same thing for the J1 medical). The J2 EAD, like most other EADs, is not restricted to certain type or job including residency. Most of the programs do not know much details regarding different categories of EAD and if you start explaining this to them they will be scared. If you match, no one can kick you just because you have EAD. The program, after you match, has to sponsor you and support your application to change to J1 medical supposed your J1 principal is done with his/her J1 because at that time you can not get EAD based on the J2 you are currently on.

Thank you, mmed. Yiu were right. Actually I managed to get to Graduate Medical education office in one of the programs to clarify situation. I am really eligible to do residency on EAD based on J2 status. Hopefully, not only this program but also the others accept it. I write it just in case somebody may be interested in this info as well.
