According to BCIS, working without EAD is termed to be unauthorized and employer can be penalised for not following the rules.
You should have applied EAD atleast 60 days prior to expiration. Nowadays BCIS is approving EAD's in abt 35 days. Till your employer demands anything, keep your mouth shut. Thats what I would bet on.
Again, EAD aren't renewed from the date of expiration. Its from the day they are approved.
