My ead will expire in 85 days. I noticed it today (thought i had another 10days for my 90 day.

Can somebody give me a gist of weather I should go for direct mailing or use the online processng ?

Also, I got angry with my lawyer since he suddenly wanted $300 on top of the standard fee. Is there any advantage of going with him or am ok in trying to apply it myself ?

Alos, in the docs that need to be sent in the online app, I believe 485/140 and th 120$ check. how about the photos ? Also in manual app, do I have to still get the photos or do they have a copy with them in my last app ?

Thanks for your quick reply

I did my renewal by myself and got it on March 2003.

Renewing EAD is a simple and you don’t have to pay $300.00 for a simple and street forward process.
Get 2 pictures
Fill out the form I765
Attach a copy of your EAD and the notice that you get with your EAD.
Attach a copy of your I485 and I140 Notice of Action
Write a letter like this one and you are set

Krishna02,

you are required to give two new photographs if filing manually.

After filing on-line, you should note down the confirmation number and call the 'national customer service'. they 'll help you schedule an appt at a local application support center to have your picture taken digitally and receive any other paperwork that's required.

check the details here,

hope that helps,

Thanks for your quick response.

How about the online app ? Will that make the process any simpler and maybe get an earlier ND for EAD ? Since I am short of 90 days, it may be useful to have an earlier ND so that I can take a shorter vacation.

When do they give the ND, is it when the y receive the app online, or when they receive my docs through mail or when I go for the interview in the local office ?

Also if you know what is the URL for the online app ?

wwosen,

first, thanks for the info.
I have a question for you. Is it ok to file yourself without filing AC-28 (change of attorney)?

Wwossen, how long did it take...

...after your application was received

1. to get receipt notice
2. to get approval (which you got in Mar. 2003).

I am wondering whether you applied yourself for your AP (I-131) too? Please adivise.

Thanks.

Hi guys,

I have a question for you.

Officially how early you can make an application for EAD. Is it 90 days 120 days or 180 days ?

Also assuming you apply 180 days in advance, what will be the effective date of renewal i.e. will it be from the date of expiry of the current EAD or from the date of approval of second EAD.

Please post your views.

Regards,

the starting date will be from the date of approval
My company advices us to apply 6 months in advance........so I applied 6 months prior to expiration and ended up losing 3 months of the original EAD becase the new approval came within 3 months...still that's better than EAD expiring while you wait fir renewal

Still Waiting...

I have applied for my EAD renawal in March and RD is March 26th. I still haven't heard anything from them...not even RFE. So I think its better to apply atleast 6 month before your current EAD expires.

You don't need to file change of attorney for EAD Renewal.
My attorney filed I485 and I140 after that I am doing everything by myself such as I131 ( AP) , EAD renewal because he asks me lots of money just to file those simple forms.

I applied on 01/22/2003 and got my renewal on 03/19/2003 before my first EAD expires. Am I Lucky ( " I DON'T KNOW").

I hope this will help.

Wondwossen

The turn around time for my application was also only 2 months (applied in mid-apr, got approval in mid-june). Although this happens, you would still want to apply as early as 4 months before your current ead's expiry to ensure yourself of an uninterrupted authorization to work.
