My EAD renewal is not received as yet and my old EAD is expiring in Jan 08 2002. What should I do, in case I do not get my renewal by then ?
A day before my application for EAD renewal to Vermont Service Center, I applied the change of address to Atlanta. So what happens now? Will they sent my EAD renewal request to some other service center.
The problem is I do not have a job either. Have I to leave this country ?

EAD is for working not for maitaining status

EAD is needed for working. If it expires you may not work but there is no danger for your status as in such. You can start again working once you get your renewal. If you have valid H1 and not using EAD then you do not need EAD even to work.

I hope you will get it before Jan 8th. Good luck.

If you are the primary applicant, not dependent, will losing job affect your I-485 application?

What about if INS ask REF or interview at local INS?

why is everyone writing that if the current EAD is expiring and if a EAD renewal is applied, one cannot work till the new EAD is approved after the current EAD expires ..???

I enquired with my current lawyer and he told me in clear terms that

"as long as you have a EAD Renewal Receipt notice, you don't need to stop working till the new one is approved if the current one expires"

did anyone else hear diffenrently from their lawyer OR read from a website ? OR are people just assuming and spreading mis-information ?

any clarification would be appreciated.

except from Murthy chat - GCNOV - dont killl the messanger

Chat User : Thanks for your excellent service. What are my options if I don't receive my EAD renewal before my current EAD expires?

Attorney Murthy : One is supposed to stop working unless the EAD renewal was filed over 90 days earlier. In that case, the INS should issue an interim EAD card to enable the person to continue to work. If the person is maintaining H1B status, it is a good idea to file for extension, if eligible, since, while a timely-filed extension is pending, a person can continue working.
