EAD Renewal - Must be in US to file?

Do you have to be in the US to file for EAD renewal or can you do it from abroad?

As far as I know, I do not have to be physically in the US in order to file for EAD renewal. (Unlike AP renewal filing, where presence on US soil is required) - Is this correct?

You have to be in US to apply for EAD or AP.

Are you sure about EAD? Do you know of any reference documents/sites where I can verify this?

Lawyer is saying he can file for EAD renewal before I get back to US next month.
