EAD renewal dates - any advice ?

Hi,

I applied for EAD renewal on Feb 19. Online status says "Your ... was received at this office on Feb 25, 2003 ....". Now I get a receipt with RD Feb 19 and ND April 7. Any ideas which is the working date for me to calculate expiry of 90 days to be able to get an interim EAD ? My current EAD expires May 19th - so this may cause me trouble.

i'd go by RD... there is no harm in trying to get an interim EAD at an earlier date in case the actual EAD does not come through.

Hi,

I would go by RD too. As far as the discrepancy between dates on online and on receipt, I would go by date given on the receipt because you are going to show your "receipt" at BCIS local office and not online date, if you happen to go in for interim EAD.

Actually I warned my employer that I may have to break my employment for 7 days, going with the Feb 25 date. It looks like BCIS has given me a break. I only hope the local office accepts RD as the start of the 90 day countdown.

P.S. I mailed my application on Feb 19 and it reached BCIS on Feb 20 (according to USPS tracking). Do you think BCIS has set an earlier RD on purpose so as to allow me a chance to renew EAD without break in employment (current EAD expires May 19) ?

I was in a similar situation. My EAD was received on 12/4 /02 and still hasn’t been adjudicated. I went to local BCIS with my receipt. In my case the RD was 12/4 and ND was 12/18, but the RD was used. I was issued a 90 day EAD (have to go back in 2 months if the original I765 is still pending) from the Portland, OR local office.
