EAD Renewal Date not Consecutive

I got my EAD renewed but the new EAD's start date is same as the approval date not the expiry date of old EAD.

My old EAD expired on 2/12 and new one is valid from 2/27, I saw in this forum before that everyone got the new EAD start date as old EAD expiry date. Is it a mistake in my case or it was always like that?.

I had continued working on old EAD expecting that there will not be any gap in the validity.

This is quite strange to me. I thought that if the EAD renewal application is received before the expiry of the old EAD, then the new EAD, when approved, always begins with a start date right after the expiry date of the old EAD. This is done to maintain continuity. Was your renewal application sent after your old EAD expired? If not, then do we have anybody else in this forum with similar situation?

may be it's the new rule

My EAD expired on 2/14 and renewal ead was approved on 2/27 and i received my ead on saturday and it has the renewed date as 2/27 expiring on 2/26/04.

Hmm I smell something fishy here.
Talk to your lawyer about this. Maybe you need to report this to BCIS to correct the error.

Here's what I am thinking on the implication of the difference between those two dates:
If the new date does not immediately follow the expiration date of the old card, then you should not have worked between these two dates, i.e. you would have an employment gap. In the future, if BCIS somehow needs to review your employment history, they could ask you this question.

So .. please get this thing straightened up immediately!
Even if your renewal is approved after the expiration date of the old card, they normally back-date the new card. Unless, the rule has changed ..

Mine was recieved on 12/31 with ND of 1/15, my old card expired on 2/13, so filing earlier did not make any difference.

My old EAD expired on Jan 03 2003, the new one has a start date of Feb 22 2003. I don't think it should create any problem(atleast I hope).I had applied for renewal two months before expiration date.

I applied for my EAD RD Jan 15 2003 @NSC
AD Mar 3 2002

Card came Mar 10 2003 and start date of the new card says 03/03/2003

This is a renewal

it looks they change the rule for ead renewal recently. last dec. immigration officer said, on the phone, they used expired date as the new start date, but now they begin to use approval date.

for those ead with a gap, you should be careful. ins requires ead renew before 90 days ead expired.

There should be continuity on EAD!

My old EAD expired on Jan 5, 2003. My new card was approved Feb 4, 2003, and it has the start date as Jan 6, 2003.

I think there might be some problem with your case, you'd better talk to VSC.
