I applied for EAD renewal on July 29 and it got approved on Sept 15. It seems BCIS is getting more wiser..at least for EAD and AP they are taking less time and also now they are giving the effective date of New EAD after expiry of current one e.g. My expiry date of current EAD is Dec 14 and the new EAD I got has effective date of Dec 15, 2003..in a way its logical also and saves us time and money…

Three cheers for BCIS…!!!

andy2000,

glad to know the approval of ur new EAD.

for my EAD renewal, the new EAD started from the day it was
approved. seems to me each one (or group) at BCIS works in
the different way.

Guys, if they approve the EAD renewal before the expiration of the previous EAD, the new EAD is dated from the next day after the expiration of the previous one.

Hoever, if they come around to approving your EAD renewal application after the first EAD has expired, the start date of the new EAD is from the approval date.
Also, in this interim period, the applicant cannot work.

So all EAD renewal applicants : make sure you apply well before the expiration date of the EAD. I would say at least 4 months, so that is there is an extended delay, we can at least go to a localINS to get an interim EAD.

jaykarandikar,

wish you are right. maybe my case is a special one.
(1st EAD) expiration time: end of Oct, 2003
(2nd EAD) starting time: end of August, 2003

Yager, yours is first such case I have heard of. I considered myself the "know-all" of EAD processing having applied 3 for my wife, 2 for myself, and have a bunch of friends who are applying for their 3rd EADs.

BCIS keeps us on your toes and at our wits ends with their ad-hoc processes.

Mine is similar to Yager's. 1st expired on 1/15, second starts from 1/3.

Also, although me and my spouse filed together, our dates are totally different both in EAD and AP.

It all depends.

1st EAD expires Dec and 2nd EAD effective 30th Aug(Date approved)

Yager,

This happened to my family and my friend's family. In our cases
effective date is the date approved and not day after expiry date
of current EAD/AP.

Looks like it depends on the officer.
