EAD Renew card starting date

Hi,
I just received my EAD card renew yesterday. Thanks to USCIS, this is my third renew:mad: But I found the starting date is backdated by 3 months!

My current EAD is still valid until Dec but due to the fee increase in July, I renew my EAD in early July. I thought new EAD card should also start from Dec 2007 to Dec 2008 because my first EAD card starts from Dec which is always the case for my two previous renew. But this time the new one starts from Sept so it is backdated by 3 month! I know I renewed it 5 month in advance but I did not see anything that won't allow you apply this early and starting date will change in I-765 instruction.

So I wonder if anybody has similar issue like my case? Is your renewed EAD card's starting date backdated if you applied early?

Thanks a lot!

That's how USCIS process the EAD renewal. Not sure you have noticed this before. Because your new EAD will have the start date same as your EAD approval date, not the day after the current EAD expire date. So, it is not backdated.

Thanks hopeofgc! The strange part for me is my previous EAD cards always started from the exactly same day. Maybe USCIS sets a different date for the application submitted long time like 5 to 6 months earlier before the expiration date?

I have question about renewal fee, why should we pay for some one else slow work? if normal, we should get I-485 proccessed in less than 1 year.
My EAD will expire 1/29/08, My I-485 is pending, PD 5/31/02, RD 12/08/06.
Should I wait another month before submitt for renew (may be I get my green card by then!) or apply now? How can I pay the fee?

Thank you!.

Last year when I renewed EAD it was approved before the current one expired and the new one had the date from the expiry of the current one's date. From that it means EAD date is not based on the approval date. But as always USCIS behaves differently.
