EAD receipt/ SSN application timing, help!!!

I have read on a different forum that after the receipt of one's first EAD, one should wait for 2 weeks before applying for a SSN. This is, supposedly due to the time it takes for DHS/USCIS to update immigrant info in so called SAVE database.
If any of you could share personal experiences and/or advice, I would be most grateful.
Also, this could be very useful to know for other first time EAD-ers, since applying for SSN "too early" upon receipt of EAD could trigger another painful and time consuming paper-based info check that could take 4 weeks or more...

Thanks,

GM

You should not wait. You will not receive your SS card unless the USCIS update your profile. So go to SS office and apply. The card may arrive two weeks later than others, no problem.

After getting 485 receipt apply SSN immediatly. It will be good to have SSN while going for finger printing.
SSN has nothing to do with EAD.

Sorry, but this is totally wrong. He can not go with the receipt only at all. To have a social security card for those with pending I-485, EAD should be issued and this is the one required for SS.

That's right

Thanks for the reply mmed. It seems like it should be OK to go to SSA office and give it a try. It is just that I am worried about how they proceed with the USCIS/DHS inquiry if I am still not in the system. If it can be done quickly through SAVE database check, that is great. However, if the paperwork and sending letters is involved, it may take some time..

I do want to get my SSN and go to work, it is just that I would like to avoid complications in this last step...and I have been waiting for 5 long years....:(
