EAD question

Hi guys, I'm going to apply my 3rd EAD(yes, 3rd!), lawyer asks for color copies of my passport. But I went to Staples, and they said they can't make color copies of government issued documents! So BCIS is asking for it, yet they prohibit it. What's going on! Anybody has same experience, please advice.

Thanks!

Ask another lawyer or change your lawyer. Never heard of BCIS asking for color stuff.

Best is to apply yourself. My experience is this : My lawyer sat tight thinking my GC would get approved. Also my Consulting company paid the lawyer very late. This delayed the process tremendously. Finally I had got my EAD just a day before my previous one expired. Do not ask for more tension. :)

deng deng , I applied myself last year in Nov 2002 without passport copies and got it . Few of my friends did the same thing and they also got it without any lawyer's mismanaged help.
If BCIS have chaned rules then so far I have not heard.

I did my EAD mine just last month. I sent it just B/W copies got it approved. Some one NSC got RFE for color copy of Driver license.
I guess either you can send bio pages of your passport or Driver license. But as for as VSC is concerned i have never heard of color copies for EAD.

It was around 4 years ago some one came with rumor that Chennai consulate requires color copies of documents. Every one started to get color copies. But I went B/W copies. And got it stamped without any problem. I think this is also a similar rumor.

color copies not needed

i applied for second ead/ap. did not send any copies of pp. just previous cards and filing fee. also 485 receipt copy.
hope this helps.
Note: i do not know if there are separate requirements for citizens of diff countries.

Yes, I do. Staples is full of crap(I had the same problem with them). Just go to kinkos and do the color copy yourself. They will direct you to a m/c and you can make as many copies as you like.

Check out for a location near you by specifying the zip code in the URL below

Me and my spouse have had 2 EADs so far. We never sent copies of our passport for EAD renewal, nor did the corporate lawfirm. I don't think you need to send passport copies. As SAI had mentioned, just go to "KINKOS" and you can make as many color copies as you like.

I heard lot of RFEs for color photocopy of passport at NSC, VSC might follow them. SO better send color photocopy of passport. As sai said KINKOS is the right place.

I applied my EAD last 2 times. Last time applied with a photo copy of my old EAD card. This is enough. If this is true, this might be new thing for me.

dengdeng,

I applied for my EAD and sent a 200% enlarged color copy of my driver's license.

You should go to Kinkos, and make a copy yourself. Kinko's employee won't do it for you as law prohibits them from making color copy of your documents. However, there is no law that prohibits you from doing the same.

Hope it helps.
