EAD question

Guys,

I was just offered a job with a firm and was not sure whether to renew my EAD for the position. I am aware that the Ngweniya vs Ashcroft settlement does state that EAD is not required for asylees. But I would be grateful fif you could share your experiences on how you dealt with this issue with a new employer (or any employer for that matter).

Thanks

You need some document to prove to the employer that you are authorized to work. So yes, you do need the EAD (or a RTD). Apply online, it takes less than 60 days for an EAD.

Thanks for your replies. Guess what I wanted to know was if anyone had actually been able to go to an employer without an EAD and if so what documents the employer required of them.

They HAVE to accept your SSC and your photo ID. It is the law of the land. If they do not, you call the 800 number for the department of justice and a US government attorney will contact the employer on your behalf. It is that simple.

I have switched 3 jobs all of them asking for my immigration status. I only gave them a memo that you can find somewhere on uscis website and they were fine with that. Keep in mind that employer only cares if they can get in trouble or not. Once they know that there is no trouble for them, the only thing that matters is your skill.

Can you point me to that document you mentioned. Perhaps the URL or something?

Thanks man.
