EAD or H1B?

Once EAD is issued, does the status change from H1B to something (EAD) if H1B is still effective? I gave a copy of EAD to HR but am wondering exactly what my current immigration status is.

Some companies cancel the H1 once you receive your EAD. You will have to chk with your HR for that.
As far as your status goes, your status would be I485 pending..

EAD-H1B conflict

I am on H1B with my wife on H4 (obviously). My I-485 is pending with CIS. If my wife wants and EAD, I was told that I should also ask for one to qualify her. Is that right?
Can I continue to be in H1B while my wife exploits the benefit of EAD until AOS is adjudicated.

Your feedback would be very useful and timely since, I will be mailing the EAD applications for both myself and my wife in a day or two.
