EAD needed for a child?

I am in the I 485 stage. My lawyer had sent me draft papers for filing I 485. What is interesting is that there were forms for EAD for my child (aged 4 years old) and also the Advance Parole application. When enquired, he said that the EAD forms were there because some people want a social security number for a child, so the EAD (technically children cannot work) is needed to show at the social security office and it also takes them out of the H4 status immediately!

I wonder if anyone has an opinion on this. Also what are the advantages of getting a social sec. number for a child? Technically she will be dependent on me for a while. Or is this merely a plot by the lawyers to get some extra cash?

If your child has a SSN, you can take earned income credit(EIC) when you file tax return. Of course your income must be not too high and not too low(refer a tax booklet). That\'s the only advantage for your child to have a SSN. I am in same sutuation. I am still wndering if my son can apply an EAD to get a SSN so that I can take EIC. Did anybody get a EAD for his(her) child?
