I -140 Approved . Filed I-485 for Self and Family in August 2007 . Have H1B
till 2009 .
Planning to apply for extension of H1B(created in 2004) / H4 for
Family in July 2008 .

Need to maintain H4 for Family as they are not here Full time yet and want to
avoid Advance Parole .H1B & I485 are on the same Employer .

Q 1 ) HOW MANY YEARS OF EXTENSION WILL WE GET FOR H1B / H4 .

AFTER H1B/H4 EXTENSIONS WITH VISA STAMPINGS DONE IN PASSPORTS , IF I USE EAD TO TRANSFER TO NEW EMPLOYER I WILL LOOSE MY H1B STATUS .

Q2 ) WILL MY FAMILY ALSO LOOSE THEIR H4 STATUS VALIDITY AS STAMPED IN PASSPORTS WHICH IS REQUIRED FOR TRAVEL .

I also need this clarification. If one moves from H1b to EAD, will his/her depdendents loose H4 status?. I was told by one lawyer that as long as the primary person is not out of status the H4 is valid. But is this correct?..
 
Moving to a new employer with the EAD would invalidate the H1B. How can the H4 remain valid if the related H1B status isn't? The lawyer must have been referring to the situation where the H1B status is valid.
