EAD experience

Hi,
This is my experience in getting iead:
Went to INS, san Diego and that day they told me that since officer is off duty I will have to come back tommorow.
Went their next day and the officer allowed me to get the EAD but he told me to go to office in Chula Vista to get my EAD. He faxed the documents to that office and the same day I went there and got my iead in 15 minutes.

I got my iead and now I am looking for SSN. Guys at SSA told me that I will get it in 30 days. My questions are:

(1) Should I wait 30 days or there is any other process to get it earlier?
(2) since I got it for 8 months, when should I apply for it's renewal?

2. This is interim, the regular EAD (valid for a year should come in a few months). If you dont receive anything in the next 4 months you can revisit INS and get another interim EAD or apply for a new EAD..
