i usually received the EAD card within 2-3 days of the approval date. this was in Dec 2002. Maybe things have changed dramatically in a month..on another note...for the renewal eads, the start date either overlaps with the previous one or will start the day after the first one expires..even though u might receive the card later...
example: 1st ead expires 11/22/02..2nd ead date will be either 11/23/02 or any date before that..the actual approval date can also be either before 11/23/02 or any date after that...so what i am trying to say here is...there will be not be a gap between the dates..though ur approval might come later..

I'd like to make it clear about the start date of renewal EAD.
They dont continue from where the preovious EAD expired. It depends on when your new EAD was approved and starts from that date.
In my case,
1st EAD expiry date - 12/31/02
EAD Renewal start date = 01/23/03 = EAD approval date

jaganjai - thanks for the clarity filled statements...that would be mean..if u r working on an ead...u rn't supposed to work between those dates..as my LAWYER says..she probably knows better than all of us....isn't it?
ur case is probably an exception regarding the dates... i am positive most of us had the dates overlapped to avoid gaps..

EAD renewal
Is it possible to file a renewal app. for EAD 8 mo. before it expires? Mine was approved in Nov. 2002 and will expire Nov. this year.
The reason I am asking is that I will move from TX to MD in May. I am concerned about the prospect of losing my files when TSC transfers my pending I-485 to Vermont SC. As one step to avoid disaster, I want to get the EAD renewed while I'm still in TX. If the new expiration date can be some time next year, I would have some buffer for dealing with potential troubles from TSC or VSC.
Any advice is appreciated.

hq2073 - if u apply for an ead now (if it is possible in the first place)..and it gets approved say in 4 months..in june 2003..the start date of that ead might be june 2003...will you not lose some months in ur first ead if u did that? ask your lawyer...i am guessing she/he would say that isn't a good idea...

Non-overlapping EAD dates

Even in my case the dates of expiration of the old EAD and start date of the new one are not overlapping.
My old EAD expired on 10th Jan. New one was approved on 15th Jan, and is valid from 15th jan, 2003 to 15th Jan, 2004.
May be INS has changed the way it handles renewal EADs.
