EAD card lost

hi,
i had applied for my 2nd EAD and had got the approval, but then the card was lost in Post. when i went into the local INS office. they said that since the card had been lost they could not issue me a temp. EAD card and that i would have to reapply for it. what i want to know is that is it legal for me to work now although i dont have my card in hand. i have emails from them showing my approved EAD but dont have anything solid to show to recruiting companies.I would be reapplying for my card tomorrow. is e-filing faster than paper based?

I am facing a similar problem.
I had applied for EAD card on September 22, 2004. On november 23, I received an approval letter from INS stating that they have sent the EAD card by post in another mail. The status website said the card was posted on 23rd November. I never received that mail. After 3 months were over, I called them and they said they will send it again and I have to wait for 1 month before I can do anything. Nothing happened for 1 month and then I wrote a letter to them. Yesterday I got a mail saying that they have issued the card on 18th November (note the descripancy) and I have to file the application again!!!!! I have a job at hand and an EAD card approval letter

Is it legal for me to start work?
