BCIS got back the EAD card, because the post-office could not deliver it.

On March 9, 2004, the card or document we had mailed to the applicant was returned by the post office because they could not deliver it. To update your address, please call the National Customer Service Center at (800) 375-5283.

I have moved to NJ and have resisted changing my address from CA to NJ, although I have filed an AC21. Now to get the card looks like I have to update with an NJ address. Will that trigger an tranfer? Any experince anybody please?

Appreciate any inputs

Probably will trigger a transfer to VSC, but you could always:
1.update the mailing address to some friend in CA who has a permanent address.
2. Hold off on filing AC21 until RFE,
3. file AR11 to change address to NJ!

Actually the address on file is that of my cousin, and it is permanent; i mean he owns the property. There was no problem, until recently when I am having problem with the mail delivery.

hmmmmmm, then why is the mail bouncing back?

Call INS and tell them the address is correct and ask them to mail the EAD again. You can't even go for iEAD, instead will have to apply for a fresh EAD if you don't get the approved one.

Thanks 140_takes_forever. I am wondering i fI could ask them to send it to my lawyer, stating that I am out-of-state temporarily....?

I am checking with my lawyer too, but before he comes back on this, I wanted some opinions here ..

thanks again.

Usually EAD cards are sent directly to the applicant and AP's are sent to the Lawyer. Don't know why that is the way INS works. Not a bad idea to have it sent to your lawyer.

Good luck!

Once the card goes back to USCIS you are pretty much screwed.
Because of security concerns they will not mail it back to you.
I mean they think you are someone else who is trying to nab
the card.

There is no process to get a duplicate sent to you or one I know
of.

My friends wife GC card went back and they refused to send it
again. Then he went to San Jose center and they gave him a form
and asked him to mail it to certain address for 5-6 months everyday and hope that it would work. He mailed the form
everyday for a year and after a year she got the card delivered
at her new address.

This seems highly irregular.

As for the undelivered EAD, I had the same problem. I went to the San Jose INS and told them that I never received my EAD and I'll need one for work. The IIO told me that they don't care about USPS delivery problems, but they gave me a new EAD. I have to mention also that I played dumb and I went there under pretense that I need an iEAD because it's been more than 90 days since I filed for EAD.

Hi Brokenarrow,
same thing happened to me one year before. I had given my cousin address who owns a house. What he did is , to block all his junk mail he informed post office to deliver the mails which comes on his name and his wifes name. He forgot that i am using his address. My EAD came and returned back to INS. I called my cousin and asked him to talk to post office and deliver all the mails coming to his address. Then, i sent one sample mail on my name to his address, it reached there. Then, i called INS 1-800 number and informed them that post office did mistake and they returned, requested them to mail it again. I got it within 2 weeks in the same address. This is happened in 1st EAD.
For 2nd EAD, I had given my apt. address, but that INS worker who typed the address into the system, he did not enter my APT #..So it returned back again..I surprised and realized i am not lucky in getting EAD in a single mail. I called 1-800 number and gave my new address (friend who owns house) and asked them to resend. They asked me to wait for 30 days, even after 40 days there was no any response from INS. I had to move to Boston, from boston i called 1-800 and told them the same address (my friend) and asked them to send. I got it within 4 weeks.
I have applied for 3rd EAD and gave my friend address (CA addresss).. keeping my fingers crossed whether i will get it this time ....
This is my experience about EAD...

Bendon,

Thank you so much for sharing your experience in detail. Yes my cousin's mails have been forwarded to him. He moved from San Jose to Orange County and has rented the place.

Also when the lawyer applied for 485 and 2nd EAD, he gave the address of c/o. Now for the 3rd EAD I applied online and did not give a c/o address. That was the problem I guess. But I recieved the FP notice correctly. So it is kind of a hit-and-miss I guess.

So I will ask my cousin to call up the post office and deliver all mails there itself; no forwarding.............

Also when I call the 1-800 number, can I ask them to add c/o in the address. Because that is how my 485 is filed? Just wondering.

Thanks again

Just called CIS and asked them to mail it to lawyer. They said that it might take upto three weeks but the request has been accepted. Have to wait and see. But at least the lady was very polite and sent out the request.

I also took the opportunity to ask her about the 485 trend, but nothing useful came out. She said they are processing Cases upto Dec 16th 2001!!!!!

Thanks for all the suggestions. Will update after I recieve the card.

Card recieved!

I called the 800 number and asked them to mail it to my lawyer. also gave the address just in case. They said wait for 3-4 weeks. Just at the end of 4th week the online message changed to :

On April 5th, 2004, the document we made based on the approval or registration of this case was mailed directly to the person to whom issued.

But the card was promptly mailed out to my cousin address again and this time it was delivered...... :)

While I am happy that I recieved the card, it is also very disturbing that CSC is in total chaos (i know, i know..... tell me something new, right?).

My 3rd EAD and 3rd AP without any mistakes on the document
were delivered to my address. Never had any problem with
delivery of EAD and AP. EAD is valid till June 2005 and AP
is valid till April 2005.

Hopefully this will be the last set of documents delivered to me
at my address and I won't need any more.
