EAD better than H1B?

I have problems with my legal work status for finding another job now. Since I quit from company A in Jan 2008, I didn't apply for EAD concurrently with I-485 back in Aug 2007. I only have a valid H1B til 2009 that can only works for company A. I'm actively looking for jobs now but I don't have legal work status proof to show my employers I'm ok to work in U.S.
So what should I do? Apply for EAD need to wait for 3-4 months but ask employers sponsor new H1B is like re-starting everything again. Please advise me what to do.

The EAD is a better option if you are interested in getting work, since it's less for the employer to do.
 
So I need to pay $340 for EAD or no fee needed for it since I filed I-485 before 7/30/07 but the receipt notice is dated 8/30/07? Meanwhile can I work in U.S.? Thanks

Very simply: if you paid $395 for your I-495, then yes the I-765 will cost you another $340. If you paid $1010 for I-495 (you probably didn't) then there's no fee.

Until you get your EAD you can't legally work in the US since you're no longer with the H-1 sponsor.
 
Thanks for the info. Can I do a H1B transfer instead of getting EAD? I see some ppl suggest that but how to transfer H1B? Apply for a new H1B or use the current one?
 
Applying for an H-1B transfer (H-1B from a different company) may be a good idea in your situation - it is really a fairly simple process and you may be able to start work for the new employer immediately upon filing (and receipt by USCIS).

The disadvantage is the cost of the filing the H-1B transfer, but it may be offset by your employment income between the time you file and the time you receive your EAD.
 
Thanks a lot. I consult with my lawyer yesterday, he told me H1B is faster in my case too. He said EAD may take 3 months and meantime I can't work. My main concern is the cost of filing H1B with lawyer is over $2000, so I just hesitate for it.
