e-file rocks......

Well, I don't know about that, I filed paper based app on June 28th and it got approved on Aug 2nd, so Paper file rocks :)

Did you loose time on the renewed EAD? I lost 3 months on my previous EAD, in the sense the old one was valid until Nov'04 and the new one is valid from Aug'04 to Aug'05!!!

VSC..

was not using my first EAD. that expired july end.
applied for 2nd ead on jun 3rd.
planning to use the second ead after h1 expires in sept.
so i guess i am loosing 2 months if u overlap my h1 and 2nd ead.

have not got the card yet.. so i dont know when the start and end date of the validity of the new ead.

e-file rocks cos
1) immediate rd .
2) need not spend money for photo
3) instant confirmation (ass opposed of days of anxious waiting in paper based cases)
4) acceptable approval times (course paper based apps get approved at least 15 days before e-files)

-- lets see if this hold true for my ap as well..

hi patient_gc

my H1 expires this December and i'm thinking about using my EAD. i haven't used my first EAD just like you. but rather than giving $2400 to my lawyer for filing 7th year ex, i was thinkin about using EAD.

how safe is it? if the company doesn't lay me off is it good to be on EAD? plus it will be an year by next month since i filed my I-140.

please let me know (kdp102@hotmail.com) why you want to switch to EAD and not apply for 7th year ex

thanks

Its never advisable to use your EAD before your 140 is approved.

If there is any issue at all with your 140 and it gets denied, you will be out of status.

Play it safe and not use your EAD till atleast 140 is approved ( safest is to keep H1 upto 485 approval, if possible)

Hi Max2K1,

My I-140 has been approved on May'04 and 2EAD has been just approved. My 6th H1B is about to expire soon. So in my case can I start to use my 2EAD since the 1EAD has not been used yet? Really feel it's kind of wasting money to spend over $2000 just to renew the one-year 7thH1B.

Thanks so much.

I-140 AD 14/05/04
1FP ???? :(

my case is very similar to yours.
got my 140 approved only in may 04. thats why i did not use my 1st ead cos i wanted to get 140 approved before cancelling my h1.
both h1 and ead would now have the same validity period i.e one year. ead/ap is definitely cheaper ..so i chose ead..

Its better to keep one's H1 status as you will be in status even if your 140/485 gets denied (for whatever reason).

You can decide if the money you spend justifies the peace of mind you get by having a fallback.

There is no right or wrong answer here -- only depends on how risk averse you are.

Thanks :)
