For those who are interested here are my approval dates for EAD/AP at VSC:

EAD/AP - ND - 09/27/2003
EAD Approval sent - 04/07/2004
AP Approval sent - 04/06/2004

I think around that time, it was taking around 6-7 months for everybody's approval. Some folks did get theirs approved sooner, but most of them went through a similar time frame.
There was no RFE generated on either of my applications - in case you were wondering it could have been because of that. This was my first EAD/AP application.

The advice given these days is - renew your AP/EAD applications 6 months in advance (before the expiry date) so that you have the new documents around the time the old ones expire. I take it that these days, it is taking around 6 months on average to process EAD/AP applications.
