Can one avail Unemployment benifits on EAD card?

Recently I was laid off. I have EAD card with me. Can I apply for Unemployment benifts. Will this be an issue to get my Green Card in the future. I applied I-485 in april2002. I do not expect to get approval any time soon.

I know that I need to me employed at the time of GC approval, however in the meantime can I apply for unemployment benifits.

I think you can get unemployment benefit. Check with a lawyer.

I seriously doubt that you can apply for unemployment benefit; but you should try;

I have no serious doubt about it. One can get unemployment benefit (on EAD). Unemployment benefit is not "public charge".

Just to be safe, check with a immigration lawyer.
