EAD and 1099

If I have valid EAD with an approved I-140 and 485 pending for > 180 days, can I work on 1099 for the company that gives me a contract? If so, what are the complications in getting my green card.

Traditionally INS or USCIS held the position that contract is not full time permanent employment. But recent memo says you can do that. Memo is not law. So they may turn back and say no.
