EAD after getting Asylum in Immigration court

Good afternoon.
I got an asylum in May-2016, my EAD is ending in March-29-2017. I received SSN without restriction.

Currently i am looking for a new job in IT. Is it possible to get hired without showing 'Asylum granted' document to my employer? What is my current status for an employer? Whether it is possible without paying $380 for EAD renewal to get a job.

Thank you

Hey first of all congratulations.
You dont need EAD as you have unristricted ssn and work authorization and you can work like a citizen of the country

Your current status is Asylee. And you don't need an EAD anymore. Your driver licence coupled with your unrestricted SSN card is enough to prove your employment eligibility.

But, if you feel more comfortable with an EAD for now (no HR questions to answer to), then you can apply for a new EAD card which should cover you until you apply and hopefully be approved for your Green Card. At this point, there shouldn't be any misunderstanding since all workplaces/HR should be aware of the LPR status.

Congratulations on your win.

The first EAD after asylum (A05 category) has no filing fee and valid for 2 yrs.- do Apply. At least it will be helpful in situations where you may need two forms of id.

Most Recruiter in IT do not know what "Asylee status" mean. Be prepared to explain them. Tell them "Legally, Asylees along with citizens and permanent residents are protected for the purpose of employment" just to make them familiar with law other wise they will discriminate you based on your status. They can still cite a different reason but ignore you for the same.

Also, unless you are getting a job through an indian "body-shop", it is difficult to get hired with expiring EAD - one more reason to get a new EAD.
