E2 transfer to E2 Dependent

Is it possible to transfer from an E2 Visa to E2 Dependent visa in case your spouse is also an E2 Visa holder?

This is in case, I find it hard to work due to family emergencies and so I would rather be a dependent for now and resign from my current employer. Then after some time when things get better with my family then I can try to find another work again under E2 dependents visa, right?

If so, how will it be done? Can the transfer be done without leaving US or do I have to go back to the country of my origin and apply for E2 dependent visa just like applying for a new one? How will the cancellation of E2 visa be done? And how long does the transition take?

Hope you can enlighten me on this matter. I am really in a tight situation right now and I would appreciate much an immediate response.

Thank you and regards,

You can apply for a change of status through USCIS from E-2 visa holder to E-2 dependent. As an E-2 dependent you have the option to apply for an EAD and work for whomever you choose. It has much more flexibility being the spouse of an E-2 visa holder than the actual holder of the visa. If you leave the country you would need to go the Consulate in your home country for a new visa stamp. You cannot enter on your current E-2 visa stamp for your current employer if you are no longer working for them and have applied for the change of status.

question for the visaexpert

If I gain employment on an E2 visa, is it possible for my wife to file for a green card? She has far better qualifications than me and as a result she could file EB2 (and thus be current priority date) as opposed to me having to file EB3.
Thanks in advance.
