DV2009 CutOffs for December 2008

My inner-geek got the better of me. Here are graphs showing the visa cut-offs to December 2008 compared to last year (DV2008) and the average of the previous 4 years (DV2004 - DV2007).

(I couldn't find any way to attach images or zip-sets so here is a pdf)

  • Africa, Asia, and Europe cut-offs are well ahead of the previous 5 years performance.
  • Oceania is processing almost exactly on the historical average although much slower than the last super-speedy year - DV2008.
  • S.America is slightly better than average, but not as fast as last year.

If these graphs are helpful, then I'll update them each month.

Nice one!

Its cool but can you include the graph for country specific and the general one.

for instance Ghana,Nigeria etc in the African region.

Is it safe to conclude cut off numbers are much higher in comparison with previous years due to the economic downfall? I'm curious to see how high they will be towards the end of DV-2009.

I wouldn't necessarily lay everything at the door of 'economic downturn'.
It may be the case, it may not.

There's a saying about gift horses....

I'll add these in for the November release.

But what about August and September?

In recent years most regions, perhaps with the exception of Africa, usually go current by August or September. So don't worry about your case number. Focus on getting your documentation together and making sure you fully meet the requirements, not making any mistakes.
Also I don't have data on August/September as once a region goes current I can't see how many cases are processed each month. Plus factors other than case number become more important in these two months.

Can't be sure about anything. The only people who could answer that would be USCIS. Maybe:
- USCIS/CP efficiency has improved
- more candidates are being screened out
- or petitioners are pulling out because of concerns on the US economy

There is something seriously wrong with your inner-geek. In the average for Oct. from 04-07, you stated 3850 then for Sept, you stated 3540. See, if you paid attention in your Statistics classes, your teacher must have told you something about outliers. The high figure of 3850 is due to an outlier (some year, i'm not sure which, the cutoff for Oct. was mentioned as about 9600 in the first bulletin) -- but you see, outliers are too be ignored while taking an average (mean). That is a serious error of judgement on your part.

Second, that was obviously a typographical error. The actual figure must have been something else. It was mentioned in a later bulletin.

I really don't want to be demeaning though, i'm sorry if i come across as that. I mean we all should be thankful to you that you took your time and gave us all that much needed information. I especially thank you because for me, analyzing the numbers in much easier with a graph.
