DV Program 2024 -

era2023

New Member
Hi all,

I am writing to seek clarification and advice regarding a unique situation I find myself in. I have recently been selected for the Green Card program for the fiscal year 2024. As a Sri Lankan citizen, I had applied for the green card while residing in Sri Lanka back in October 2022. However, I am currently in the United Kingdom, where I arrived on 19th of January 2023 to accompany my husband, who is pursuing an MSc degree. Our planned duration of stay in the UK is until the 28th of May 2024, which coincides with the expiry date of our current visa.

Prior to our arrival in the United Kingdom, we had submitted an application for Skill migration in Australia based on my husband's occupation. However, we received the formal invitation after relocating to the UK. Subsequently, we lodged our NSW skilled migration 190 visa application on the 17th of April 2023 and are currently awaiting its grant.

To further complicate matters, I recently received the exciting news of my selection in the DV Program 2024.

I have some issues that I would appreciate clarification on:

1. Considering our present visa period, which is expired on the 28th of May 2024, is it possible for us to attend the DV programme interview in the UK?

2. Could the fact that we have applied for an Australian Skill migration visa pose any issues or concerns for our Green Card lottery application?

I kindly request your assistance in addressing these concerns as they are crucial to our future plans and await your prompt response.

1. It may be possible - depends on your CN, when it becomes current and how soon you submit your DS260 forms.
2. No impact.

Thank you very much for your immediate response.

My Case Number is 202400033xxx.

I have already started filling out the DS-260 forms and selected the United Kingdom as my preferred interview location. However, I understand that once this selection is made, it cannot be undone. Therefore, I would like to confirm if it is possible to change the interview location in case my circumstances prevent me from being in the UK at the time of the scheduled interview.
I kindly request your opinion on the following:
  1. Is there any opportunity for me to have my DV Program 2024 interview within the timeframe of my current UK visa (see my case number for further reference)?
  2. If circumstances require me to be outside the UK during the interview period, what is the procedure for changing the interview location?

1. I cannot predict when your CN might become current but it is fair to say it will probably not be within the first six months of your DV fiscal year (your FY starts in Oct. 2023) by the way.
2. Once the interview location has been selected on the form like you already did, that section of the form gets locked up. You will not be able to select a new interview location on the form itself. However if your circumstances change and you need to change the interview location accordingly, you’ll need to inform the KCC of your change in circumstance and request for them to update/change your interview location.

Hi... my concern is, when we apply this i did not know that im pregnant, now she is 25days old... can we add her to the form? Will it be an issue, not presented earlier? Of cause we cannot add a child before born no?

Of course you couldn’t have added an unborn child to your initial application even if you knew you were pregnant back then. So adding the child now is not a problem.

Hi,

Thank you for your immediate response.
Further, I kindly request your opinion on a few clarifications I require while completing the DS260 application.

I made an error in the DV lottery application by mistakenly entering my surname as my family name. However, I understand that when completing the DS260 application, it is mandatory to provide the name exactly as it appears in my passport. Therefore, I would appreciate clarification on whether it is possible to correct my name in the DS260 application to accurately reflect the name as stated in my passport.

I am concerned whether this mistake will have a negative impact on the success of my application or if it will pose an issue during the interview process.

All you can do at this point is enter the names correctly as they should be when you fill out the DS260. If the CO determines the swapped names was not an attempt at gaming the system into allowing multiple submissions, you should be okay.

Thank you for the information. I need to clarify more details on :

1. Inquiry regarding current employment for DS 260 Form completion:
As previously mentioned, I am engaged in part-time employment in the United Kingdom, primarily at McDonald's and Action for Children, in order to support my spouse's higher education. Should these positions be included in the DS 260 Form under the section pertaining to current employment?

2. Inquiry regarding sponsor and correspondence address details:
Is it necessary for the correspondence address to be that of the individual sponsoring me? Alternatively, am I allowed to select a relative's address within the United States to receive my Green Card, disregarding the sponsored individual?

1. Use your own discretion.
2. You can use any address, doesn’t have to be your sponsor’s address.

Hi,

In DS260 the section where they ask for Mailing and Permanent address information, there is a question about whether the mailing address is the same as the present address. As mentioned in my previous inquiry, I am currently residing in the UK on a temporary basis. I would like to know the best option to choose for my mailing address from the following options:

1. Should I use my present (UK) address?
2. Should I use my Sri Lankan address?
3. Should I provide the US address I mentioned in the application where they ask about the address I intend to live at after arrival in the United States?

Furthermore, I have another question about whether I need to include all my education history, starting from the beginning to the most recent. This means including my GCE OL (General Certificate of Education - Ordinary Level) to GCE AL (General Certificate of Education - Advanced Level) institutes, or if it's sufficient to provide only the highest education level.

I would greatly appreciate any guidance or insights you can offer on this matter. Thank you in advance.

1&2: It really doesn't matter in terms of mail delivery. The listed address will however be used in determining your interview location, so you should be able to use your own discretion on that based on this information just provided.
3: No, not for that section.

As for the educational history, you can list from whatever grade you were at from age 11/12ish, don't limit it to your highest education level alone.
