DV lottery - have they ever exceeded 50,000 visas and interview cancelled?

Has anyone heard of any DV selectees having their interview cancelled due them having a later interview at which point all 50,000 available DV visas had already been issued?

can happend but from what i read, they have never issued all the visas... i saw once that barely above 50% of the visas are issued because too many people don't qualify

I have never heard of interviews being cancelled. I believe when they go to the trouble to schedule interviews, they know they still have slots available. I do believe some high numbers have never become current, but not in the last couple of years.

Can anyone support me with fact here? I have never heard of it, but it might have happened.

I have also heard that anyone getting notified about his/her selection, will have his/her interview for sure. They don't notify anyone if they don't think they won't be able to interview him/her.

Boy, that would be just cruel!

I understand that they've never given out the entire 50,000 Diversity Visas. However given that there are always 100,000 selectees, and since they plan on selecting additional selectees on October 1 this year in lieu of the May 1 selectees who flake out and don't respond in a timely manner, is it possible that some of the later selectees who have their interview at the very end of the process (mid 2014), that they may exceed the 50,000 visas? Which begs the question - if it came down to this scenario would they grant a DV to a selectee who has a late scheduled interview in 2014 even though they may be Visa issued holder 50,001, 50,002, 50,003 etc on the basis that they were granted an interview?

I have another question, it seems very few good news for visa pickup recently, it is because many people don't share here, so many people really waiting after interview?

I think there is some misconception on the number of selectees.

There are 50,000 GCs available - fact.

There are 100,000 selectees - fact. Case numbers have even crossed 100,000 (Obeezyb is 105,000 if I recall).

Remember one thing, the KCC and US Authorities don't give GCs to everyone. The 100,000 selectee is like a standard deviation or median selectee range to cover the following:

- People who send in their forms and get selected for an interview and get through to a GC.

- People who send in their forms and their forms aren't correct (in which case they don't get an interview).

- People who get selected and get rejected at the interview

- People who don't bother following up after selection.

- People who don't meet work experience requirements, people who don't have sufficient finances etc.

- People who are cheats and put in multiple applications and get "flushed out" by the US Authorities and rejected.

The guide to go by is the US Visa Bulletin...we have now hit 56,000 for June DV2013 and we have July, August and September remaining out of the fiscal year.

From the previous 4 DVs we can see that June onwards becomes current and at latest September for all the high case number selectees. Unless the KCC decides to keep using case number quotas for the remaining three months (which normally doesn't happen and only last happened in 2008), everyone has an equal chance of being selected. Take dadada who was AF88,000 (which is high!) and got through.

Nobody has ever been given an interview and had it canceled (DV 2012 was an exception because of the computer glitch or something). When they grant an interview it means there is a Green Card available for that interview slot.

The process is not like a first come first served queue so it's nothing to really stress about because the case number factor is something which isn't in our control. Its a matter of 3 Ps - Patience, Preparation & Prayer.

People with high case numbers such as myself Princedriss, Obeezy have been into the game for almost two years and the anxiety is now somewhat getting us because we simply want to get this thing done and over with as the process is so life changing and we have to plan way ahead and settle our existing matters/lives before entering the US.

I hope the above helped :)

I got the feeling that i have the highest case number this year, i mean..has any one ever seen such a case number? And do i even stand the slimmest chance of receiving a visa interview date?

Well yours is pretty high bro, for DV-2013 I had seen the highest being in the 80*** range.

REALLY??? ARE YOU ABOVE 100.000? I guess it's a very high case number, but that points to a doubt I do have: If they picked up 125.000 and you have over 100.000 from Africa, and we have seen Europe 50.000 and over... is there a chance that the numbers are consecutives and not depending of the region? is that even possible? that they startet like with OC000001. EU00002 and so on? Would like to know what Britsimon hace to say about it...

I have been collecting all the Asian number in 2013.
Within 5000-5999, 320/1000 were issued. 124/1000 were under Administrative Processing. 18/1000 were refused. 72/1000 were ready, which I think just didn't bother to follow up or didn't know they were selected, cause their number were current long time a go. The rest are either doing AOS (very tiny amount) or just holes.
Suppose all the valid numbers are sporadic distributed. Then you can apply this data to all the Asian number.
So far I can tell that the highest number that has been arranged an interview is 10682, after which there is no number ready for interview.

I will do the same thing when 2014 begins, and then compare the two years data.

How do you calculate all these , did you write an app that collects data from their site ?

Yes, but it takes a long time. Maybe I should try SA which has fewer numbers instead of AS.

DV2013 from Asia should have around 16K selected , so numbers should be much higher,
did you check numbers around 15-16K ?
did you see all become current this year ? this is a good news for DV2014 also.

Within the last 1K, valid number are scattered. Numbers ready for interview are being released these days. But if you search online, you will find the highest number reported is around 10K. There are no valid number up to 200 (the biggest gap so far) after 10682. I didn't test 15K-16k because I don't think it is necessary. But if you insist, I can run a few hundred tonight.

maybe you can send me your app and source code and i can run it also on some numbers.
