DV: Derivative Processing time?

Hi,

I am newly married to a DV winner and I am on j1 visa, and I am planning to apply as a derivate. However, my spouse lives in a different state than me. I have a job/education in a different state so we have a valid reason to live apart.

How long does a derivative's application take to be processed? I know that my application can only be processed after my husband's application is approved. So I was wondering if my application is going to take double the time as his?

No one can predict precisely how long it will take. Like you already you, your petition can’t be adjudicated until your spouse’s petition has been adjudicated.

How long yours will take depends on when your spouse’s CN becomes current, + when your spouse’s FO adjudicates their petition (depending on the FO’s workload and how long it takes your spouse to clear their background check), + how long it takes your spouse’s FO to send your spouse’s case file to your FO, + what your FO’s workload is like, + how long it takes for your background check to clear. Get the drift?
