DV 2021 passport Requirement

Hi all,

What are your thoughts on the requirements for passport information for DV2021? I am in the USA already as an LPR and my parents are back home. I’ve entered them multiple times previously without success and noticed now they want their passport information this year.

They have never visited the USA and just about 2 weeks ago my dad got his B1/B2 to come and visit and my mom is going for her interview in November. I’m worried that this is going to cause some flags or something when the consular officer interviews her for her tourist visa and somehow now that we are entering passport information it shows they have applied for DV? I know entering doesn’t show immigrant intent etc, but really do you not think this is going to cause issues? I’m even thinking about skipping entering them this year.

This is obviously a new process. Yes, there’s no doubt the US government will end up gathering all these information into their extensive database, however theres no precedent for anyone here to know or say conclusively what else the US government may use the passport information for.

So I don’t think anyone here can reassure you the information may or may not inadvertently or erroneously be used in determining an immigrant intent even though we know submitting an eDV entry form does not on its own signify an immigrant intent.

Your mom just needs to prove to the interviewing consular officer that her B visa will be used for what it’s intended for. Although s/he may be aware of your parents’ DV entries, s/he will also need to assess whether their travel plans make sense and are not that of an intending immigrate (using a B visa).

I’m almost certain that F1 visa holders have entered the DV lottery without problems. The question during that interview (B visa) is: WILL YOU USE THIS VISA AS INTENDED (i.e. go back home after your visit). This is regardless of whether you wish to move to the US in the future -- via legal means.

A possible reassurance is that many people, me included, have successfully visited on existing visas even after being selected and submitting DS forms.

Thanks everyone. I think I may just skip them this year, I’m a year away from applying for citizenship so might as well just wait and sponsor them directly. I’m not worried about my dad since he has the visa but my mom still has her interview so I’m not going to risk having it denied and her never being able to visit me here. Good luck !
