Hello,

I applied for the DV-2015 today Oct 1st 2013 and got a confirmation number to check the status in May 2014.

My question is, Does this confirmation number mean anything or is it just random?

It means nothing, but keep a good note of it as you will need it later.
 
The one you get when you register and the ones most people have in their signatures are different numbers, the one you have is a mostly randomly generated number that you use to check if you won or not when they do the drawing in a few months, the ones people on the forum have are the numbers they get assigned as a result of winning, sort of like their place in the queue.

Also I don't know the specific details of how they work, but I don't think you should be posting your number publicly, you may want to edit your post and take the number out
