DV 2014 before interview questions

Hello everyone,
I have received the 2nd letter with an appointment for an interview in August. I am overwhelmed by all the details and need some help please...

1- After receiving my 1st notification that I have been selected for further processing in May 2013, I go married in April of this year, and now (June) I get the appointment for the interview.
How do I declare my marriage so my wife can immigrate with me? or will that lower my chances of getting the Visa? Should I 1st get the green card then ask for her to join?

2- In the instructions it is mentioned that after being selected and until we get our 2nd letter we should start preparing the documents needed, including police reports. How long are these documents valid for?

3- I have read in the forum that we need to have a American sponsor, but nowhere in the instructions do I find anything.

Thanks and hope to follow the rest of you in becoming a fellow citizen of the USA

1. You should have already told KCC you got married. You need to immediately send forms for your wife and a copy of the wedding cert by email to KCC. You need to get her in to the embassy for your interview - she MUST accompany you. "Declaring" your marriage is not optional, to go through your interview as single would be a clear immigration fraud - you need to sort this out now! (Advice #1, don't try to fool the system with lies)

2. Get the documents now. (Advice #2, follow the instructions)

3. As has been addressed hundreds of times, you don't need a sponsor if your financial position is good enough to prove you can survive without someone. (Advice #3, read more carefully)

I hope you get these things sorted out and if you do become an LPR in the USA, advices 1, 2, and 3 will all be valuable to you!

Good luck.

Thank you for your reply.
1- we just only received our marriage certificate today after certifying from the ministry of foreign affairs. So Will I need to send them separately TO KCC now? If I send it now after my 2nd letter is that going to revoke my application?

2- I am sorry for not being clear in explaining, I have followed the instructions and got all the police reports and other documents but some were issued May 14, 2013. Are they still valid? My country is at war now and I am unable to get these documents. One police report states that it is valid only for three months! so thats long expired now.

After your reply for No. 1, I am really stressing. We got married in beginning of April but didn't get the certificate till today, and if I send my wife's documents by email to KCC now after my 2nd letter and appointment at the embassy, will I basically get disqualified for more than 2 months of delay to tell them? especially after getting the appointment? Sweating here!!!

OK - your main "problem" is getting your wife into the interview with you. KCC will have sent your paperwork to the embassy already as a single applicant. So your 2NL only has your details. Some embassies will only let people with appointments into the embassy. So - you should contact the embassy and check if they will let your wife enter with you. If they will let her in you'll be ok.

Make sure you also go with evidence that the marriage is genuine and was not just an attempt to benefit from the DV win. You will be questioned about that.

1. see post above - they won't revoke the application because of the marriage unless it is a fake marriage.

2. If you cannot get the police reports replaced use the old ones. People have done so in other cases successfully.

Why did you get married just before the interview when you've known this was coming for a year?

They're going to be suspicious it's a fake marriage. You'd better bring a bunch of photos, joint bank statements, rental agreements, romantic emails/letters anything to prove your marriage is real. There's lots of threads on this.

I'd try to get Police Clearances. Better to minimise the number of weird things in your application if you can. Too many flags and they'll put you on AP.

Go with your wedding Album and Marriage Certificate. The technical bit has been explained by britsimon.

They'll need more than a wedding album, anyone can photoshop one these days. Gulkan's post gives more detail as to what they will need to prove a genuine relationship.
