DV-2013 Winner with questions about Interview, Medical Examination

Hi everyone,
I am a German citizen, but currently studying in the US. I was selected for the DV-2013 and just got notified of my interview. It will be in Frankfurt, Germany.
1.) Is it possible to move it to New York? (I assume not).
2.) Is it at least possible to move the date to a week later? It is scheduled right during my Midterm Examination Week. If it is possible, how do I do it?
3.) Do I have to get the medical examination done in Germany by one of the 5 or 6 doctors mentioned on the Page? Could I get it done in the US? What happens if I get my Medical Exam AFTER the Interview? I really don't want to go back to Germany twice (once for the Medical Exam now, and then again for the Interview).
4.) This has probably been asked multiple times already, but... what questions should I expect?

Thank you very much for your help!

Sebastian

You previously asked this question on the AOS thread, and someone attempted to answer it, I believe. Anyway, here's my take:

1. I think moving (or trying to move) the case from a CP to AOS will result in complications, especially since an interview as already been scheduled. CP and AOS are 2 separate processes operating independently of one another. KCC has already sent your file to Germany as per your earlier indication to undergo CP.

2. It's possible to reschedule the interview date. Most US embassies (if not all) allow that. You will need to directly contact the embassy handling your interview to find out the process for rescheduling. You can start by checking the Embassy's website.

3. Your medical will need to be performed in Germany. I doubt if the embassy will accept a medical done in the US, again, contact the Embassy to confirm this. If you attend the interview without the medical being done, you'll probably not be issued with the visa. Passing your medical exam is part of the requirement for getting a visa approval. If you're lucky enough to meet a 'compassionate' CO during your interview, you may be allowed to proceed with the interview with the understanding that your visa will not be issued until your medical is received. On the other hand, you may get an outright visa denial based on your failure to undertake the medical exam. So, the ball is in your court!

I've read in several places that you cannot get the Medical Exam done in the US. It has to be done by one of their specified Panel Doctors approved by the visa-issuing embassy/consulate. On one site, I read that not having had your Medical Exam before the interview was reason for refusal so I would not risk that. It would be different if you had the exam beforehand but the panel doctor needed some extra information and it was just delayed. You would get approved, if everything else was in order, but would have to provide the complete medical report before you actually got your GC.

And yes, I believe you can change the interview date but you'd have to confirm that with the consulate.

I don't see why you would need to make two trips to Germany. Make one trip, of about 8-10 days, with your interview in the middle of that period.

1) Arrange an appointment now with a doctor for day one in Germany. The results should be ready within a few days but check that first. Ask the panel doctor you choose how long does it take to get the results. In my case, the reports are ready the day after the exam, after 4pm.
2) Go to your interview.
3) Then you have to wait a few more days for return of your passport with the approved visa.

It's calling it close, maybe a bit stressful, but I believe very possible. Oh, and before Step 1), find out what vaccinations you need and get those done now if possible. Or ask the panel doc if they can do them at the exam. Get prepared as much as you can.

Good luck!

Thank you very much for your replies. I just emailed the doctors that I could go to and the Frankfurt Embassy about Rescheduling and will call all of them on Monday. I hope it will all work out.

Best,

Sebastian

I agree with sm1smom. You need to seriously consider how long medicals take. Find out how long it'll take for TB and other test results come back from the labs. In US, one can wait at least a week for the results. 8-10 days for everything is a little too optimistic.

you can change the date of the interview/ just have to call the consulate and talk to them. there was soebody on this forum who did that already and everything went great.
i dont know how long it takes to do medical exams in germany. im from poland and got my done in one day. went there early in the morning, did the blood test and chest xray, picked up the results after 2 h and went to the doctor for a check up. that was it.

It depends. That's why I advised for him to call the Panel Doctors to ask how long the results will take. In my case, here in Canada, I just did the Medical Exam today, along with the x-ray and blood test. My results will be ready tomorrow after 4pm. So, one day here. If I were Sebastian, I would phone all the panel doctors to find the one who can produce the results the quickest, since timing is an issue. He's lucky, he has 5 or 6 doctors to choose from. We only have one here in western Canada. Next one is 3000 miles away.

Im polish too :) How expensive are the medicals in Poland? Also, is there a lot of doctors who do that?

Thanks

you can do your medicals either in Warsaw or Krakow. I dont know what it looks like when you decide to do it in krakow but based on what i heard you need two days for that (results are ready the next day).
i did mine in warsaw. there are two doctors working for the embassy. you have to prepare around 400 zl. 250 for a check up, 100 for xray and blood test. then police clearance 50. if the doctor tells you that you need some additional shots then it's another 100.

Getting back into the US

So I scheduled the doctor's appointment and rescheduled the interview to 8 days later. I am booking my flights to Germany now.
Also, what will happen after the interview? How long does it take to get the Greencard? Will they send it to my home adress in Germany?
Will I be allowed to enter the US before I get it, using my student Visa? Or will my Student Visa be voided?

Thank you for your advice!

You do not get a green card, you get an immigrant visa stamp on your passport and that's how you enter US. You won't have student visa any more. Find out about the processes in your consulate, some consulates send your passport and packet within the few days after interview, IF you are not put under Administrative Processing for some odd reason.

That's always the risk - being put under AP because something wasn't right, or they need more info that you don't have with you. We have to travel to Montreal for our interview, all the way across the country. There's a fair bit of stress worrying that they'll want something more, that we didn't bring with us, so we'll be bringing absolutely every bit of paper we can imagine, just in case.

We know when to book the flight to Montreal but not exactly when to book the return flight as we'd prefer to not fly home without our passports. There's too much to think about with this thing. So much stress!
