DV 2013 - what happens next May?

Hi

I am just a little confused about next May.

I know that on May 1st we can log in to see if we have been selected or not.

So, one of two things will happen.

We get a message saying you have not been selected, so we wait and apply next year.

OR

We get a CN and then keep checking the bulletins to see if our numbers come up and contact KCC to find out the interview date?\

So why do we get advised to keep our numbers for checking after May 1st?

Sorry for the confusion, this is my first lottery and I am trying to understand the process.

Many thanks and warm wishes from Australia

the number of visas selected TOTAL for processing in the random selection process is larger (some 100 000) than the number of visas that will actually be issued (some 55 000 - "initial" selection - all of these applicants are notified starting may 1st as "selected for further processing")

and Gurus, correct me if i'm wrong, but if, during the ongoing DV interviewing process any visa numbers become "freed" (like someone failed an interview or whatever...), these are being added towards the DV applicants "pool" who initially were notified (on may 1st) as "not selected".

this is why it is wise to keep checking your entry status until the end of FY - sept 30th (that's when they stop DV processing of the current FY)

Prior to DV 2012 you get your second NL (Notification Letter) which gives you your date of interview through normal post mail. But starting from DV 2012 you get your First and second NL through ESC with your Confirmation number that is the purpose of keeping your CN after checking and got selected for further processing.

KCC said u keep ur confirmation number safely and u can check ur status from May1 2012 through April30 2013 because that is the period u can do the checking. Not everybody checks on May 1 and after u have checked and no luck, u can throw it away. Results do not come in, in batches.

2nd nl

Hi Doveman,

Just a little concern. First of all, from how I understand it; the ESC just gives the status of whether you've been selected for further processing or not. Secondly, on the www.dvselectee.state.gov website, it clearly states

"Step 4: Your Interview at the U.S. Embassy or Consulate Abroad

After all of your forms have been received and approved by the Kentucky Consular Center (KCC), based on visa availability, you may receive an interview appointment letter indicating the date, time, and location of your visa interview. You will need to be present at the interview, as well as your spouse and children (as applicable) who are applying for a diversity immigrant visa."

Now, after reading your post, I've started doubting my knowledge. Is there anywhere that is written that you will get your 2nd NL through ESC? If there is, please share it with me. Secondly, if ESC confirms receiving your documents, please share with me on how to check for the confirmation of receipt from KCC. My concern is that I submitted for my brother last year and he was selected on the July 15 results. He did send the forms via DHL and DHL confirmed that the forms were delivered to KCC but he hasn't gotten any acknowledgement from KCC that they have received his forms. Please advise me on how to check on these.

Thanks a bunch.

To get a confirmation from KCC, you simply call them or send them an e-mail with your name, date of birth, and Case Number asking for the status of your case. If all good, they will reply you saying something like "your forms have been received and are being processed"

Per DV-2012 instructions:
Entry Status Check will be the sole means of informing you of your selection for DV-2012, providing
instructions to you on how to proceed with your application, and notifying you of your
appointment for your immigrant visa interview, so it is essential you retain your confirmation
number.

So once you win, your first NL will be shown when you check at ESC, once an appointment has been made, that page will be updated and will show your 2nd NL with appointment date and etc. So, you need to keep your confirmation number to be able to check for your 2nd NL (an e-mail will be sent to you stating that an update is available).

Hope this helps.

Hi everyone, im new Here...i entered on the 5th of nov for the very first time in ma life-i woke up that morning and said i wan to go to america so went online to check on the much talked aba lottery and lo and behold it was the last day;i had a few hours left;rushed out to take pix n had a struggle with the picture requirement thing-nearly gave up but with God's help i managed to get it right in the end.waitin patiently for may 2012-GOD HELP US ALL!

Hi guys first time here trying to absorb as much info as possible before hand. I and my friend both entered for the DV 2013 as i have an Indian nationality but i am using the changeable of U.A.E as i was born and currently living here. However my friend holds a Somalian nationality and was born there but currently lives here in U.A.E. but using his chargeable to Somalia.

So i wanted to know if god willing he wins the DV 2013 and by default will be given CP where would he have to go to get his visa as Somalia doesn't have a US embassy and as he is chargeable to Somalia. And is it possible for him to request to be CP in U.A.E.

Secondly, i also wanted to know if won DV while filling the forms were they ask for address and the address were the GC should be delivered, is it possible if i put in Maryland, Washington DC (were my cousin lives, who can later post me the GC) and at the same time my POE is LA and i would reside there.

Also is it better to send the forms to KCC ASAP in order to get the cut off early in Visa Bulletin.

Yes he can Charge to Somalia
He can do CP in UAE
You can enter anywhere in the states and request the GC anywhere else as long as its a US address.

I think you didn't get me you see Somalia is in Africa so his Case no. will be in Africa and UAE is in Asia. So if he is give CP in Africa, will it be possible for him to change the CP to UAE as he lives here. If so then how can he do that.

One more question : As i will not be having a sponsor in US then i don't need to fill the I-134 form, right? Secondly can my father who stays in UAE also, can support me on the funds like by getting his personal and business Bank Account Statements and a letter of support from him and i show them at CP, is that accepted or do i need to have bank statements on my personal Account or my Business account.

It does not matter that he lives in a different country/continent to where he was born. I was born in Africa (and was chargeable to an African country) but did my CP in Australia. Once selected, you will be given a set of forms to complete - on these forms you indicate at which consulate you wish to have your case processed - in your friends' case he will select UAE.

I do not know which forms you should complete, but it will be explained to you in your 2nd letter - if you get one, so don't worry about that right now. What I do know is that you must show that you have funds available for you to use - I doubt whether money in your fathers' account would be acceptable.

However before you choose make sure the US embassy n that country conducts DV lottery visa application.Someone got in trouble last time when he chose US Embassy in Philippines and Filipinos are barred from participating. So I don't how that played out.

About the "picking people who are already in the US" debate - as a foreign college student in the US, I have applied for the last 3 years, have not been selected each and every time. 2012 is my last shot or i'm heading home. End of the world indeed.

So, yeah. If you want to use me as example, living in the US makes no difference.
