Sorry that it took me a while to write my story, but here it goes…
I entered the DV lottery for the 8th time in October of 2010. I really wanted to win, and was disappointed when I checked online on May 1st 2011 and read the same old “you have not been selected” text. My disappointment, however, did not last long as I was preparing for my wedding set for July 2nd. About two-three weeks later a friend of mine posted a link on facebook that said the lottery results were cancelled. I did not believe it and opened the official website that confirmed it. Unlike for the 22,000 who found out they were selected, it was good news for me. But then again, I did not think about it much as I was busy with the whole wedding thing.
On July 16th I found out that I had been selected. I filled out the forms and sent them to KCC. It was then time to wait and prepare the necessary documents, and it seemed as if it lasted forever. Finally, on December 9th I received an e-mail from KCC asking me to check my status online. Our interview was set up for February 21st in Almaty, Kazakhstan. I am from Tajikistan myself and me and my wife had to travel to Kazakhstan, as US Embassy in Tajikistan does not process immigration visas.
We did our medicals in Almaty on February 20th, and the results were ready the same day.
The next day, our wait was over. It was interview time
. It was set up at 9:50, but we went in 10 minutes earlier. We went through the security check, and went up to the 17th floor. There were other people who were waiting for their interview. I gave our 2nd NL to the lady behind window #4. A few minutes later I was called up to submit all of our documents. I then paid $440 per person for the two of us and an American lady took our fingerprints.
We then waited a while. Finally, my name was called up. We went in to room #5 but consul asked my wife to wait outside as she wanted to talk to me first. I then found out that they thought our marriage might be fictitious. Below are the questions they asked us (they are not in order they were asked):
Me:
1. Where do you currently work?
2. Why do you want to go to US?
3. How long have you dated your wife?
4. When did you meet for the first time?
5. When did you decide to get married?
6. Who did you meet through?
7. Was it before you entered the lottery?
8. Why did you divorce your 1st wife? ( I was previously married, divorced right before entering DV2012)
9. How long were you married?
10. Why did you decide to get married so quickly?
11. Did you get married to benefit from your win?
12. How does your wife feel about this?
13. Does she want to go with you?
My wife:
1. How many people were at your wedding?
2. Did you know that he was previously married?
3. Will you be studying in the US? What will you be studying?
4. Do you want to go there?
5. Do you have any acquaintances in the US?
6. Who is the person in the forms? (item# 10 of form DS-230)
7. Where do you plan to live?
8. Why did he divorce his first wife?
9. How long did they live together?
I gave long answers explaining everything. The whole interview lasted about 15 minutes for both of us.
As I had mentioned before, we got married on July 2nd and I won the lottery on July 15th. This made them believe that our marriage might be fictitious. Me and my wife went through a set of questions just be on the safe side, and it helped us a great deal. Here is a link to the questions: http://www.immihelp.com/greencard/f...marriage-based-greencard-fraud-interview.html
At the end, the consul said “You wife is very sweet and seems very excited about moving to US. Your Visas are approved. Congratulations”. This put a “Joker” smile on my face. My wife knows English on entry level only, so she looked at me and understood that our visas were approved
.
The next day we came up to the Consulate at 4p.m. to get our passports.
That’s it!!!
P.S.: We purchased our tickets and will be leaving in a month’s time!
