DV-2007 Evidence of Support

Hello

My wife has won the DV when we were in USA. Now I am back in my home country waiting for the Consular Interview. Me, wife and kid will be applying.

I received 2nd package from KCC. Their checklist doesnt ask for any evidence of support.

What I would like to know is
1. Do we need to show evidence of funds at the interview?

2. We have joint accounts in USA and India. US Funds - 25K. Is this enough ? OR should we still execute afficavit of support ? Or do I need to execute it for my wife and kid?

:D hi zamman,i think you might need to show evidence of suport.cos ,its like u will be going with ur family.and i think you will need to prove to them ,that u something to live on before u get a job.

US Poverty guidelines for 2007 says that family of 3 should have at least 22,000 $. What does this mean?

We are a family of 3 and I have 25,000 in my joint account with my wife - Does this mean that we are good without any Affidavit of Support ?

Evidence of Support : It can be any combination of the following three :
_ Affidavit of Support : form I134 filled by a US Citizen ( USC ) or a Legal Permanent Resident ( LPR = GC holder ) http://www.uscis.gov/graphics/howdoi/affsupp.htm

_ Job offer in the US : it is better to obtain a job offer on the company's letterhead and have it notarized.

_ Own funds ( bank accounts, assets....): see poverty guidelines for an idea of the amount. ( bank statement)

For the Evidence of Support, you can provide any combination of the 3, which means you can provide one ( any one ) of the mentioned documents, two ( any two ), or the three of them.
Remember that you better be safe than sorry. Bring as much as you can.
So, the I134 alone is good. Still, it would be better if you could show your own funds.

Also, education and english skills play a role as it will help in finding a job.
The immigration officer determines your potential to become public charge. So the more proofs you provide that you won't become one, the better for you.

It means that you should have about 22k$ as funds available. But this is a guideline only. For example, if you have less, but have a job offer, you are fine.

Yes. But the officer might thinks it is not enough though.
It is always advisable to be able to show more than what is being asked ( true for everything : US tax retruns are not part of the list of requested docs, but you may or may not be asked for them so you should bring them. Plus, transcripst are free, so there is no reason not to ask for them ! :cool: )

This mail is a query regarding Aff of Support.

My wife has won the DV and we have applied for her, self and kid.

I stayed in US for 3 years with wife and kid till Dec-2006. I have 3 years tax returns and W-2s.

Can I submit an Aff of Support for my wife and kid? Will I not be eligible because I am not in USA for the last 6 months ?

Please guide?

As you are not yet a LPR ( thus not a USC either ), you can NOT "sponsor" yourself by signing the form I134.
The Affidavit of Support, form I134 for DV, can only be done by a USC or a GC holder, which you are not ( yet ).
The problem is not that you were out of the US for a few months, but because the rules say that you can't because you are not a LPR yet.
You would need to find a friend/ relative... ( USC or LPR ) who would accept to do it for you.

Bring your tax returns with you. They'll show how much money you were making when you were employed in the US.
 
Are the below docs enough from my friend for Affidavit of Support?
1. Affidavit of Support (I-134 form completed and notarized) for wife
2. Affidavit of Support (I-134 form completed and notarized) for daughter
3. Affidavit of Support (I-134 form completed and notarized) for self
4. A copy of the sponsor’s US passport (Should this be a color xerox ?)
5. A copy of the sponsor’s 1040 Individual Income Tax Returns and W2 forms for the most recent tax year

Hi,

I have 2 questions...

1. I got one I-134 for myself and my husband and daughter are listed on the same I-134 on item 3. Is this ok OR we need separate I-134's ?

2. My relative is self-employed hence his income is not on W-2. He has to declare his income and total income for last year is only 37806. Also - he has other deposits etc listed on I-134. So is the poverty guideline checked as per income on W-2 or 1040 or the I-134?

Hi all

Our interview was on 2-July and our documentation was collected. My wife (primary winner) was asked for her degree - she showed it. Her 12th std certificate was not even looked at. Drafts for the DV fees were collected. No other questions asked.

Also - regarding the Affidavit of Support - it was from my wife's uncle in USA. The official said that the income is not enough. My wife is the primary winner and self/ daughter are beneficiaries. When I showed my W-2s for 2004, 2005 and 2006 - they accepted that for myself. Then for my wife/ kid - they accepted the Affidavit of Support for wife and 1 copy for the kid along with my US bank statement (joint account with wife). This is FYI...

The officer said that the documentation is in place and congratulated us and said that passports will reach us in 7 days. Eagerly waiting to see the passports ? Can there be a rejection now for any reason?
