Duplicate Travel Document

Hi,
Is there anyone who has ever had a chance to request for a duplicate travel document. The reason why I am asking is that I lost my travel document while I was moving to the new address. I don't remember where I put it. I searched the whole place twice. I got it on the day I moved.

Thank you,
AKFL

No choice -Have to Apply for AP again !

Attach a letter explaining that you lost it otherwise they will look into system and not issue another one unless by the time they get to it old Ap's duration is over.

Are you sure that it is indeed lost while moving, but did not get lost in mail? ;)

Pralay and Mailarvin,
I am positive that I lost it while moving to the new address, because I myself opened the mail from USCIS and looked at it. I am planning to write a letter to INS Vermont requesting for a duplicate travel document or make a quick trip to INS service center in Miami as I live in Fort Lauderdale, FL. I am just worried about how they will take it.

Thank you for your response

Well, pralay is just trying to "suggest" to you, that is what you should tell USCIS. Lay the blame on them for the missing AP !! :). You didn't understand his blink and took the message literaly ! ;) Somtime you have to be smart to get the meaning of what the other person is trying to tell you, and not take everything on face value...am I right pralay ??

Taking into account the time USCIS mat take to issue anoth AP, the best option for you will be to reapply for new AP. Remember, unlike EAD, you can have overlapping AP's at the same time, so it is perfectly legal to apply for a second AP, even though your previous was recently approved. You do not have to mention what happened to previous AP.

Well, legally I did not suggest anything, did not advice anything. However, if you got my message, that's good. It's possible that you lost your AP in mail.

It's unlikely they will approve that, if he/she doesn't show proper reason. AP fraud happens and they think that someone is going to commit fraud with 2nd AP (like selling AP in underground market). Recently they changed AP document - now it comes with printed picture and security watermarks. But couple of years back they used to paste your ADIT picture in AP - which was easy to replace and commit forgery.

Bottom Line:-

You will have to apply again:-
1. Make sure you document that you lost earlier one.

2. If you have to travel to India urgently then you may visit local INS office and present your case, they have the power to issue one then and there.

Good Luck !
