To anyone who has been through the grind before:

I have a couple of questions regarding the questions on DS156 and DS157:

In my case, I am going to India to get the H1 stamped and will be using the Mumbai drop-box:

1) DS156-Q12: Home address: Does this refer to the address in US or in India (May sound stupid, but I dont know what the visa guys are looking for! - they\'re too unpredictable)

2) DS156-Q22: How long do you intend to stay in the US? (I am also going to state yes for "have applied for immigrant visa ever before" ) So what should I put here?

3) DS157-Q12: List last two employers: My current job is my first job (now ~1.5 years) What should I put here? Would "N/A" be OK?

4) DS157-Q18: Specific travel iternary: What do they expect here?

Thanks in advance

Got my Visa stamped 2 weeks ago...in Mumbai through Drop Box

It was very simple..!!! Just dropped my Passport on Wednesday and got the passport back on Friday early morning.

Coming to your questions...First of all they verify all your answers in the Visa Services, however...

1) DS156-Q12: Home address: Does this refer to the address in US or in India (May sound stupid, but I dont know what the visa guys are looking for! - they\'re too unpredictable)

I guess you need to write your home address in India, where you are expecting your courier back

2) DS156-Q22: How long do you intend to stay in the US? (I am also going to state yes for "have applied for immigrant visa ever before" ) So what should I put here?

Regardless you applied for immigrant visa, you will be given visa only for the period which you have on your H1 permit..so put until whatever date you have on your H1

3) DS157-Q12: List last two employers: My current job is my first job (now ~1.5 years) What should I put here? Would "N/A" be OK?

I hope you must have worked with some Indian company before coming to US...So put those companies names and details

4) DS157-Q18: Specific travel iternary: What do they expect here?
Enter details about your return ticket...just flight number and other itenerary info...

Hope this helps

Some more DS156 and DS157 Questions

1) DS156-Q10: What should I fill in for "National Identification Number"?
2) DS156-Q12: I have a permanent address in India, however I will be staying at a different address during my visit (which is where I want my passport to be sent by courier after stamping). Which address should I enter here? Will they check this entry against the permanent address mentioned in my passport?
3) DS156-Q23: I have already paid for my return back to US (since I was in the US when I booked my tickets to go from US to India and come back from India to US). What is the best way to answer this?
4) DS156-Q31: What is an "immigrant visa" petition? Is it the same as a "Green Card" petition?

5) DS157-Q3: What does "Full Name (In Native Alphabet)" mean? Do they want me to write down my name in Hindi?
6) DS157-Q18: I indeed have made "specific travel arrangements". However, I can only provide details about my ticket from India to US. How can I be expected to provide any details about when I will next take a vacation to go to India? How do I answer this question?

I haven\'t worked for any indian companies

Thanks Sai,

I was a student in India and then came to study here (on F1) and then moved to H1. So my current job is my first job.
I\'m sure there must be some who came to the US like me: purely as students and then started working here (for the first time ever).

Can someone like that provide me with an answer?

common sense..

1. If you don\'t have one say none
2. Might. But you can have different perm address and courier send address
3. Self (if personal vacation), company (if business)
4.Yes. Especially I140 or 485
5. If hindi is your native language
6.provide whatever you know

thanks ...

jaxen,

thanks very much for the reply. I was thinking of writing along the lines of what you said, but was looking for others\' (specially those who may have gone thru this recently) opinions as a confirmation. Anybody else add to jaxen\'s replies?
