My parents had an appointment at Chennai consulate yesterday for visitor visa. At the end of the interview my dad was asked to provide DS 157 form which he did not carry with him as he is 57 years old. So the consular officer handed over a DS 157 form and a pink slip and asked him to email a scanned copy of the form after filling it up and send it via email at the email specified in the pink slip. They kept the passports of both my parents. Does anyone have any idea what does this mean ?? And I am really confused about how to send the response email as the consular office asked to send the scanned copy of DS 157 which will be in PDF format and the pink slip instructions clearly says that all the files should be in .txt format.

Any response is appreciated. Any idea how long something like this will take?

For information:
The questions that were asked to my parents were mainly about my father's profession. His job title, where does he work, what are his duties, what his educational qualifications are. Asked him to show the degree certificate. He is a central government employee. Asked my mother if she is a house wife or worked. She replied she is a house wife.
They had a telugu translator.

Got visa after 1 month

After sending the DS-157 form and the answers to the questions in pink slip, my father got his passport after 1 month. He got the visa stamped for 1 year. Hope this gives relief to people who are in the same boat.

If he would have carried the DS-157 form in the first place, he would have got 10 years Multi visa. Any way good luck to him for a nice visit to USA.
