I came to the US in 1996 on an F-1 visa. My multiple visa was valid till OCT 2001. I have completed my BS from the US and then changed my status to H1B(on Sep 2001). I am planning on visiting my family in India this december. I have a few questions?

1) My company is in the US and since I am going to India for the first time (after changing my status to H1B), I was told that I need to go for stamping. I want to find out if I am qualified for drop-box facility? I am from Hyderabad, AP and will have to apply under chennai embassy.

I visited the consulate site but I am little confused. Is it true that I qualify for drop-box only if my company is in India? or is under the business Executive program? Or under my case - am i eligable for dropbox? Also, I heard that the conulate has suspended the drop-box facility - is it true?

Thanks Much!

Thank you Jaxen for the response.
I am in the same boat, I am scheduled to appear for the interview in Calcutta very soon.
I checked the muthy bulletin. It explains why L1 applicants have to go for the interview. Although at the end it mentions that new H1B's need the interview it doesn't explain why H1B's need the interview..

My question is- what could the consulate be potentially looking for in the interview? Whether the job definition is indeed a speciality occupation? Whether the person's professional background matches with the person's job description? I know these qyestions are all speculative, but any response will be highly appreciated.

Any thought on theese lines will be highly appreciated.
