Drop Box issue in Calcutta

I applied for a H1B visa renewal in Calcutta on 24th June. I received all my documents back from the consulate on 27th June along with a letter on which a section 221(g) your application requires additional processing/ clearance, please contact this office in a month. Has anyone run into a similar issue? Please help by sharing your experience. I have my return tickets to the US in July 2nd week and have exahausted my vacations for this year. I would really be thankful for anyone sharing any suggestions/ similar situation etc.

I called up Calcutta consulate around 3:00pm today. The visa officer pulled up case file and told me that they have referred my case to State Dept in Washington for clearance. This process typically takes 30-45 days which means that I have to change my travel plans. I am sure that I am not the first one in this boat. Can any one please share any similar experience? Thanks a lot in advance!!
 
Sorry, I can not really share any experience on this with you. However back in November of 2003 International Staff Advisor told me that some people can face this problem becasue they may be classified as working in a department which is under Technology Alert List.
