I am going to Niagara Falls (Canadian side) with my car.

I believe, by defualt, I should have documents with me.

- GC
- Drive License
- Auto Insurance
- Passport

I have a child (US Citizen). Will she need to have US Passport with her?
Do I need to bring Birth Certificate of her?

Pls let me know.

thx much

You don't need your passport. Only GC will suffice. For your kid, although the Canadian side will let her in with her birth certificate but while coming back the US guys may (and probably will) want to see her passport.

gc_wait_485,

My personal policy is to ALWAYS carry my passport with me when I am crossing the border regardless of what the rules allow.

Stoned!

US Citizens can still re-enter from Canada without a passport (until June 2009 I think but you can easily check that). You would absolutely need at least her certified (with raised seal) birth certificate. If she has a passport, bring it. If not, she should get one eventually. Also, if both parents are not accompanying the child, you should have a notarized letter of permission from the absent parent(s).

I came back from Canada. We needed to show passports (going Canada) and GC (coming US). That was all. I brought a birth certificate, but was not asked to show.
It was simple enough!! Good to be a GC holder :-)

Surprised to know that they asked for your passport at the Canadian border (I ma not sure if you voluntarily showed it). I been going to Canada by road frequently (last in Aug) and they never asked for my passport (by road that is)

Would be interesting to know if they have changed their policy.

They may or may not ask for a passport in each direction. I have had both experiences. The safest thing to do would be to carry it.
