DREAM Act defeated.

It would have benefited so many kids. Why was it defeated?

There are political forces in this country who will not accept any kind of pro immigrant legislation. Based on the comments some of them have made, I am sure if they could they would end the asylum system as well (in their eyes we came in the country illegally or with a fraudulent intent.

Most of the Republican presidential candidates went on the record in the past 48 hours opposing the bill. And thousands of calls from ordinary citizens were made to Congress in opposition.

They think that this is a mini-amnesty and if they approve it, it will be used as a magnet for illegals to come and enroll their kids in school with the hopes that they will do well and get papers for the whole family.

Think about it. IT was a mini-amnesty. I am all for giving undocumented the status..i mean sooner than later we have to do that anyways..so why not just do it?

This bill was kinda going the back door way. Giving status and eventual citizenship to illegal kids would've opened doors for the parents..even though some illegal parents in country wouldn't have benefited but there are always waivers or introduction of waivers down the road..

I think something will happen maybe in 2010..
