I got married last year May..but did not file or havent filed yet for my papers. Last year June I applied for an extention 1 week before my 6 months was up. I still haven heard anything from them except getting a receipt for my app. I called them numerous times and they said that my papers were still being reviewed..its been 10 months.
My lawyer said that if I want to go home..even if I file for residency..I won't be able to leave with a travel document until i know for sure my extention was approved...or I will be barred for 3 to 5 years. Am I technically illegal now even tho my app is still pending?
I need to know what to do to get them to answer me....Can I leave the US and come back without any probs or do I need to stay here in the US until I get my residency to leave and visit my country?
