Why do u say India only? Is INS working only on cases for people from India? Are Indians the only ones applying for GC?

My dear, expand ur thought horizons. Try to have some self esteem. If it wer not for an Indian, immigrationportal.com or rupnet.com won't have been there.

Indians on this forum, just to give an example, are causing most brain-strorming (energies therein may be misdirected or ill-spent at times), but as I said in my first reply to u, despite all odds in their nature (punctuality etc. etc.), they r the most flexible/tolerant lot. Aren't we paying the price of somebody else's deeds (9/11 aftermaths) thru longer GC wait, for example?


But u never hear a single (still existent) GC soul from those countries talking against their country men being responsible for GC delays, US economics etc. etc. etc. as a consequence of 9/11. Not the least on this forum (comprised of supposedly educated people).

Everybody looses something from time to time. I am no exception. However, a winner learns from the losses and fights back. In the long run, he gains everything that was lost and possibly more.

I know that I have not done anything wrong and I deserve to get the GC. If my GC is denied, I will fight back. There must be a reason for denial and I have a right to fight back. It's not a question of IF, but WHEN I get my GC. US is a country of Law. This is perhaps the only country in the world where Aliens have sued the government and won the case!!

I am ready to wait longer if that's what it takes to filter out the terrorists. Tomorrow, I or my family can be a victim of terrorism. I am ready to pay this price for the security. It's not begging, whichever way you look at it.

How can you describe I-485 applicants as beggars?

A beggar is someone who takes something for granted.

A beggar is someone who solicits alms for a living.

All I-485 applicants are working for a company. A company that is willing to pay big bucks to have this person working for it. Any I-485 applicant does not even come close to the definition of begging.

I-485 applicants are making contributions to this society. There is demand for the resources or else no companies will find the need to sponsor anyone for a green card. Why does bill gates advocate immigration? Gates has a company that has 40 billion dollars in CASH without a penny in debt. Don't you think that Microsoft can easily hire anyone in this country for programming if there are indeed enough programmers here available for hire? The answer is NO. Microsoft needs to fulfill its demand from else where. it is pure simple economics as DMA_VA said. Demand and supply. Where the demand cannot be fulfilled at the home land, you seek else where for to fulfill that demand.

I-485 applicants are seekers. Seekers of opportunities. Like DMA_VA said "immigrants to this land have always been great adventures/fighters." I-485 applicants made the choice to leave their home country seeking new adventures, exploring new lands, meeting new people, and spreading their own culture. This, by all means, contributes greatly to this society instead of taking something for granted. Why does America dominate? Because the contributors of this country are all seekers of new opportunities. The people here, including people who want to be here, are not afraid of taking risks, making a better life for themselves and those around them.

We work hard in this country. We will continue to work hard after we get our green cards. Beggars??? How dare you???
 
OK this is becoming again an interesting debate.

Well GC ka Jhanjhat has no partner - so I will speak for the motion. This is true that competetion is very hard in India. This is also true that you guys may be exceptionally talented ( of course I am not) but there are so many like us back in India. Personally , in my student life in Kolkata, I have seen real good brains getting wasted because of lack of opportunity or direction. We are here because of one of these reasons : - talent. ambition, opportunisim, pure luck ( the last on is my case), but I have some problem in digesting that all of us are exceptionally brilliant and driving this great country. I agree that all you guys are hard working and law bound aliens - I just dont think that we are irreplacable. Our fellow country man back in India will do the same amount of work like us(no disrespect to anyone). Considering that - I do consider myself fortunate to be here and to get the GC.

On a lighter note - I would love to meet all the brilliant people in here who has obliged INS by accepting the GC.

Being a critic is one thing and criticising your own self is another. I can spend many lines criticising you, but never on earth would I say, that we are eating left overs. Everybody on this continent is immigrant, some came early and some late. So always feel pride in whatever you do. You seem to think about yourself as educated slave (H1), but my friend, you get paid only when you work. If you think we are getting left over fruits, try sitting at home for 3-4 monhts, and you will realise that without working nobody gives you even left-overs.
And please note that Moghuls and Britishers too invaded India to eat the fruits planted by your ancestors.
Your "gc_ka_jhanjhat" id itself reflects your negative approach to life. Try attending some good school of thoughts and you will realise the true meaning of KARMA, where in you have to take things positively as they come in your life.
I am hopeful that you being a true Indian will take this suggestion positively and will not throw sludge back at me or at other senior members who are here to share their views.

I have something to offer to ur viewpoints. I think it is not a point of discussion that all those who came here are brilliant and those who didn't aren't.

Point of contention is whether present immigrants to this land are living on alms or on strentgth of their capabilities.

Brilliant or average, survival and fighting to stay ahead is the key. Opportunism, luck, hard-work, timing are sheer accompaniments to this quest.

This is not to say that those who have not come here are in anyway less talented etc. etc.

And for Godsake, not everyone who has and hasn't come here is Indian. It is not a question of non-immigrant Indian versus immigrant Indian but a question of immigrant versus non-immigrant, country transparent.


US Laws, though quite fair, may not be best attuned to let an immigrant fight for his/her right judiously, but fight still must he/she to survive for his rights.

That won't make him/her a beggar by any yardstick. He/she will be a winner afterall.

I have been your admirer reading your numerous posts throught past 6 months

I agree with you that the credit must be given to the hard working immigrants and take nothing away from them. They really are a present day representation of the earlier immigrants who have formed the country we know as US. Having said that, this is also true that we are n a way blessed to be a part of this society. I certainly understand the frustration of the adjustees in this forum calling INS/IIO's moron and boneheads and lazybums -but as a rule we as human being alwaus tend to overlook the fact what we have acheived and always lament what we have not acheived.

The words one uses in a post play a major role in moving public sentiment one way or the other - certainly the use of the word begger was not proper. But we have to keep in mind he did not call all the immigrants beggers he was just quoting a proverb and we have to understand thats just an analogy and not take things literary.


Last not the least - I agree with you about keeping this discussion healthy.
 
Good chain of thoughts

I would also like to say a few words about the issue of not being "Irreplaceable" (indispensable, to be precise) - raised before.

I feel that being indispensable is not necessarily good for an individual or for a society. America is a competitive society. And, the best part of living in the US is that the options never end. Employers have options to choose from a great pool of resources, employees have options, consumers have options. The moment options get limited, we start to suffer. I hate, when I have to stick with Windows, because it is indispensable, or to my local phone company, because there is no alternative.

Also, I hate when I have to be associated with a company in order to ensure my stay in the US. That's the prime reason for me to apply for the GC.
